For the next 5 days, the neighbourhood of Gràcia will celebrate Barcelona’s most popular and colourful neighbourhood festival of the year; this is basically a street party, with the aim of bringing the residents and neighbours together in communal activities and events. We are very fortunate to be invited to join in these celebrations! It is very important therefore that we show respect for the residents, the decorations and the neighbourhood by not creating noisy disturbances after 1pm at night.
Not long ago Gràcia was a separate village, and still maintains its village feel! Being just two metro stops away from the city centre, you can distinguish the buildings for being smaller and there’s definitely a more local vibe in it. A huge attraction of this fiesta is the effort the neighbours put into decorating their streets in handmade crafts and recycled objects for bragging rights of having done the best job.
Our tip: Wander the streets during the day or siesta time to see the most decorations and take pictures to avoid the sometimes overwhelming crowds that gather during the night. It’s best to check out the street dressings earlier in the week, before the prizes are given. There’s a packed programme of free to attend concerts during the night, and almost every street has a bar so you can go grab some drinks and food!
